Real-time Online Video Surveillance

Real-time Online Video Surveillance

Video surveillance has always been a very effective and a required method for monitoring/recording/avoiding unusual activities at many office premises, industries, factories, and homes.
Unfortunately all available video surveillance techniques require constant attention of at least one person all the time. Also, it takes hours of work to search and find the spots of interest in the complete recorded clips.
Our Idea is to totally remove the human monitoring as well as make the system so intelligent that rather then a human sitting and finding the required clip portions from hours-long clips (at least 24 hours long recordings if the activity is done on daily basis), the system itself understands activities in the view area and reports it to the user in real time.

Since 4G enables video data transmission at a very high rate as well at a very high definition. This allows our idea to really take advantage of 4G as a lot of video data is required to move from device to server and from server to remote device in real-time (just imagine 100 users videos streaming to and from server to remote devices at one instance).

How Real-time online Video Surveillance works?
Let us consider a situation for home usage.

User will have to create an account at the website and download the appropriate application for his system (a standalone camera, cctv, laptop webcam, mobile phone camers, etc) and install. User is also required to install an application on his remote device (a mobile phone for e.g.) where he want to receive the alerts and live video.

Once the user is ready to leave his house, she will start the application on her system which will start camera and now the view area will be protected.
The patent-pending technology of Real-time Online Video Surveillance will start analyzing the moments in the house frame by frame.
Once the system finds any moments or unusual activity it will contact the online server and start sending the video to the user account at the server.
as soon as the server receives the clips of moment or unusual activity, it alerts user on her mobile phone (while she was on the go), and presents a message that there is an unusual activity recorded right now at the house. It also presents an option for the user to view the online real-time video of what is going on at the house. User can view the live video directly uploaded from the surveillance camera to the server and now delivered on the user's mobile phone.

Since she was able to see the unusual activity right at the time when it was taking place, she has many option to stop any unfortunate incident. She may give a call to the nearest police station or ring her neighbor etc.

User may also choose to avoid alerts at that time and can anytime login to the website account and get all the clips arranged with date and specific time period.
This way User do not need to search hours-long clips but gets specific clips of her interest.

Business
There will be monthly and yearly subscriptions available for users with different packages and storage limits for different needs and requirements.

Location based content.

Submitted by: Wolfgang - 9/2/2010 11:26:55 AM
Category: Application

Status: Submitted

Outline
Upload date (Text-messages, videos, documents, etc) with an area encoding which can be received by other users whenever they enter the designated area.

For example: You can upload a movie on You tube (or similar video content providers) and add a location to it. When a 4G mobile device is detected to be inside said area the server will notify the device and allow the user to view the content at his own leisure.
Similarly you can leave a text message at a location, to be received by other devices that enter the area.
When walking on historic ground users can be notified of the relating Wikipedia article.
Advertisements can be send to people in the area. If a store is having a sale it can contact users in the general area.

Functioning
A 4G enabled device sends its location to the server. The server locates all data relating to the location, compares them to the users preferences and sends a message to the device notifying the user what is available and provides a link to the data.

Why is it interesting.
Every trip becomes a discovery, and you never know what treasure you might unearth. The dreary trip to work or school becomes a adventure.
The current approach in essentially all forms of digital communications requires the user to be active. Wikipedia won't surprise you, because you have to know what your looking for. The internet has given us access to almost infinite amounts of content, but they require people to look for them, only on rare occasions will you discover something unexpected on the internet.
With this approach people can "stumble" on something they never even knew of, yet may be of considerable interest to them.

Requirements
The two requirements are servers and content.
Additional servers are required to search through databases adding cost.
The content is essentially, as everything would be user generated, if it can be integrated in currently existing services such as Youtube and Wikipedia and enormous wealth of data can be made available in a short amount of time.

Monetization.
Since the servers will see more activity because they have to monitor locations and compare data the cost raise.
As a free feature it might prove a strong enough selling point for the device and the service that those cost can be absorbed.
In the case of pay per minute services, the servers can notify users of content and users will be inclined to access the content and hence spend more time online.
Alternatively this service could be provided at extra cost, or as a purchasable application.
Another method of monetization could be location based advertisements.

Challenges.
Abuse of the service such as: leaving behind highly negative messages or offensive material. To compensate for this users can note their preferences, indicating the people they want to receive messages from or the type of content they wish to receive.
Other forms of abuse are inherent to services such as these, and many effective measures are known to exist against it.

Added cost for servers.

Services such as Youtube, Wikipedia etc would have to consent to add these features.

Intelligent Transportation System ITS

Driving means constantly changing location. This, in turn, means a constant demand for information on the current location and specifically for data on the surrounding traffic, routes and much more. A lot of accidents take place every year because of human errors, mechanical failure of vehicle, inclement weather conditions, and also because of road geometry. Safety should be the top priority for any transportation system. With the availability of various networking technologies like 4G various techniques for driver safety and comfort have been worked out. Some such solutions are Intra-vehicle communication, Inter vehicle communication and also vehicle to roadside communication.

Inter vehicle communication (IVC) enables the autonomous exchange of data between vehicles. Dangerous or undesired hindrances like bad road conditions, unexpected driving behavior, very recent accidents, or sudden traffic jams might be perceived very fast. This offers the chance to significantly reduce the probability of accidents. The most important feature of IVC by the use of 4G technology is its ability to extend the horizon of drivers and on-board devices and, thus to improve safety and road traffic efficiency.

The data exchange between vehicles is made possible by ad-hoc networks, formed between various nodes(in our case vehicles), equipped with 4G enabled wireless communication devices capable of autonomously recognizing other ad-hoc nodes within communication range.
These short distance connections are spontaneously created between the vehicles (nodes) as the need arises and can organize themselves without the help of any external infrastructure and can provide packet forwarding. Such technology might be useful if a vehicle encounters a critical situation such as congestion, fog, ice or an accident. It can pass the relevant information on to all affected road users in the immediate vicinity of the danger spot. Traffic approaching from further away is given ample warning and can respond to the situation say by taking alternate route. In this spontaneous information network, each vehicle can take on the role of a sender, receiver or router, allowing a chain of information to be built up that is capable of covering a substantial distance.

The information available through these 4G enabled vehicles can be grouped together in several categories. A very important category is driver assistance and car safety. This includes many different things mostly based on sensor data from other cars. One could think of brake warning sent from preceding car, tailgate and collision warning, information about road condition and maintenance, detailed regional weather forecast, premonition of traffic jams, caution to an accident behind the next bend, detailed information about an accident for the rescue team and many other things. One could also think of local updates of the cars navigation systems.
Another category is infotainment for passengers. For example, chatting and interactive games between cars close to each other.

Next category is local information as next free parking space, detailed information about fuel prices and services offered by the next service station or just tourist information about sights.
A possible other category is car maintenance. For example online help from your car mechanic when your car breaks down or just simply service information.
The rapid advances in wireless technologies like 4G provide opportunities to utilize these technologies for advanced vehicle safety applications. For instance, the system will be able to monitor traffic to coordinate traffic lights so that traffic flows smoothly. Also public safety vehicles will broadcast, via the wireless channel, to change traffic signals in order to respond quickly to emergencies. In order to avoid collisions and improve efficiency, cars will communicate with one another to drive cooperatively.

As an advanced step the transport department can plan on installing road side hotspots also called road side units (RSUs) which are also equipped with 4G enabled devices and processors at places like signals or sharp turns. RSUs are strategically placed along the road in order to provide services to vehicles. For instance, a RSU may be placed near an intersection to improve the flow of traffic through that intersection and to reduce accidents. Also, a commercial entity can deploy a RSU to provide value-added services, such as the announcement of possible places of interest to the driver (e.g., restaurants, motels, and gas stations).

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are the future of transportation. Safety being the biggest concern these days with growing population and so traffic, transportation companies can focus on providing such 4G enabled devices on the vehicle. With millions of vehicles on road in any country ITS can turn out to be a lucrative billion dollar industry and so will attract corporate to invest heavily so as to have an edge in a cut-throat transport and communication businesses.

Pathfinder : A new way to go places and share with your friends :)

Pathfinder is an application that will run a mobile device that has a decently high resolution camera that is perpetually online.

Pathfinder will be unique as an application that is fun and all about sharing, but also very very useful in a functional manner.

Pathfinder is an evolutionary leap over Foursquare. It will be the world's first path finding system that is integrated socially

The big idea is to help people find something, find somewhere and get there painlessly, and most of all, share with their friends and everyone else on Pathfinder.

Google Maps is a pain, you need to be able to figure out from the bird's eye view of a map where a location is, and more often than not there will be funny quirks in the road direction that will not help you!

What if you could get anywhere, anytime, painlessly and efficiently? How would one accomplish that? You harness the power of crowdsourced information, combine that with a hefty dose of on ground info, and throw in hard core Path Optimization Algorithms, thats how.

Now why do it on 4G? Because applications like these need hardcore bandwidth in order to send all that information around. You will be sending tons of data that will tell the application exactly how to get somewhere, road directions, conditions, traffic density, travel time etc.

Imagine your friends want to meet up at a new pub in town, the pub location has been tagged by the owners, several existing paths have already been taken by the early bird patrons that have been there, traffic density has been estimated for the area, heck even good parking locations will have been indicated. Pathfinder servers will then pick a good route for you to take and send your application the information.

You open up your device, fire up Pathfinder and select where you want to go( it already knows where you are! Heck it even knows if you are going to drive or talk the train! ), and a 3d corridor overlay lits up on its screen guiding you to the location. The overlay exists on top of a camera view from your device and will come with gentle voice prompts to help you with navigation.

Of course you can view it on a map to give you a general idea of how to get there, but the heart of Pathfinder is the guided corridor and social experience! Not only that it will be littered with useful local knowledge tidbits contributed by other users :)

And the cool thing is that people will love to contribute to the system because of the achievement system, attractive prizes to be won for high achievers and of course the recognition and the sheer joy of sharing :)

Mobile Patrol/Command System

Status: Submitted

The mobile patrolling/command system is a patrolling and remote command system which utilizes the ubiquity and the broadband features of a 4G network. It provides a two-way communication between the police officers on patrol and the commander in a far-away monitor or command center via realtime audio/video information exchange.

The current system which has been successfully developed uese WiMAX as the 4G network. In the application each police officer carries a WiMAX capable audio/video device. The main board in the back pocket contains modules including WiMAX, video coding, VoIP, GPS, and sensors. A hidden video camera captures the view in front of the police officer and deliver the signal to the main board. A push to talk system integrated with VoIP technology is equipped for audio communication. And the GPS module locates the position of the device. All the information is exchanged with the far-side commander via the WiMAX module on the mainboard. The whole device is packed in a portable box with dimension 17.7 cm x 13.5cm x 4.7 cm (Length x Width x Height).

At the monitor and command center, there is a screen displaying all the realtime videos/audios and sensors' information sent back by the all the police officers. All these police officers act like mobile dynamic surveillance posts. In addition to that, they can communicate with the commander in the monitor and command center to give an oral report of what's happening around him and receive commands.

A 4G network is needed to realize the system because of the need of mobile wireless broadband transmission. It requires streaming heavy realtime data with mobility in both upload and download directions. The bandwidth needed mainly depends on the bitrates and the number of the videos. However, in order to have the system successfully function in a real fire event, that is good enough video quality and enough number of videos (more than 4), one would need Mega level's uploading and downloading speed, which the current 3G system would not be able to support.

The same system can be turned into a Fire Scene Command System in that the fire fighters send real time videos of the fire scene to a commander in a far away control center and receive commands. Whether it is used as to fight crime or fire, the concept is the following: When in dangerous situation, each police office or fire fighter may only be concentrated on the things happening in front of him, and not be aware of the immediate dangers, such as building collapsing or fire bursting. With all the videos and information, the commander, although fare away, will be able to have an overall view of the whole situation, and send commands to those on the scene to escape from or avoid the dangerous areas. With the integrated information, the commander can also command the police officers or fire fighters to the area where the immediate assistance is needed.

This e-Police Patrolling System was deployed in a real event in late March 2010. It was used by Taiwan city police to monitor the TURANDOT Opera playing in the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium. Nine police offices with the patrolling device were dispatched, and the videos were monitored in the control chamber during the whole events. The system was highly acclaimed by the city police after the three days' show was over.

As a Fire Scene Command System, it was also demonstrated on October 27 2009 via a real WiMAX Network -- ITRI's M-Taiwan WiMAX Application Lab. It was a live demonstration which impressed a group of international visitors.

The system has been endorsed by Taiwanese government and a project for wide range deployment has been initiated. The system with a mobile WiMAX Pico station can be installed on the scene when needed, whether it is for patrolling or for disaster control. With the project, we hope to see the system show its values to help the community in near future.

A video clip from TURANDOT Opera event is attached to show the system and its usage scenario. Sorry that the voice-over is in Chinese, but the video says it all. Thank you very much

Networked Automobile Traffic

Submitted by: jalexander - 8/31/2010 8:58:40 PM

With 4g and and a GPS enabled smart device, drivers could drive safer, more efficiently and cheaper.

The software application consists of a client running on a gps enabled device in a user's automobile, which, when activated, joins a network of similar devices. The network is aware of current position, destination (if provided), current speed and direction, distance, vector and destination relation to other devices on the network. Because the network is aware of these factors, it can 1.) advise driver of optimal speed in relation to their current speed, 2.) advise the driver of alternative routes due to traffic, 3.) advise the driver of proximity to other vehicles grouping those with similar destinations for optimal travel times 4.) allow users to view aspects of the network on a visual display.

4g would allow devices the bandwidth to both connect to a central server for general network information (as currently exists in similar systems) and to *directly* connect to other devices in nearby vehicles, so that the cluster of vehicles may make decisions and act as a group, or share information and vehicle telematics. The proposed platforms would be common operating systems such as Android or iOS which would allow maximum market in a minimum amount of time as opposed to a custom hardware solution that would take some time to penetrate the market. In addition, 4g would allow some redundancy in network connection by having both a client-server type network and a peer-to-peer type network.

I hope you like my idea and that I may see it in action!

(For detail graphic device description, please kindly refer to attached pdf)

Problem statement

Road accident, vehicle stolen, burglary, vandalism, robbery, property crimes are very common occurrence everyday in our beloved country and even on the rise in this few years. Official police statistic shows that in the year 2005 there was 157,365 reported criminal cases nationwide and increase by 54.13% to 242,544 cases in the year before last. A lot of car stolen and criminal cases was still pending until now. Numerous accident cases are solved unfairly or with false accusation.

Device description

i-GeniusTrack is a portable solar powered 4G mobile surveillance and emergency life saving device that mainly developed for vehicle, homeland, business and public security purpose. This device enable legal video recording and real-time viewing for the device user or third parties who is permitted.
i-GeniusTrack consist of a portable video capture device, a data storage device and a touch panel. The video capture device is a miniature gadget with 2 foldable solar panel and 2 adjustable cameras facing in 2 opposite direction. For vehicle purpose, the video capture device can be mounted on the dash board or the wind shield below the roof of the car or the rear of car. The device records all the exterior and interior views of car.
Other than surveillance purpose, i-GeniusTrack also enable the real-time checking and updates of traffic condition. The user can view the real-time video from other vehicles if permitted by the car owner. Let's say you want to check whether traffic is jamming at certain road or to reveal a places or building you never go before. Just use the GPS web-base platform to detect randomly the cars around the area that equipped with i-GeniusTrack, select one of them, and tap the connect button on the touch screen. Either way, an invitation pops up on his touch panel screen asking if he allowed you to connect. If he accepts, then you can start the real-time viewing through his car camera.
For safety and private security concern, only the car owners can access the interior view of their car through the touch panel themselves. Even when you are connected with a car, you can only see the exterior view of the car but you will not know any information of the car, such as the car number, car model and the car owner. Also, there is a setting for the car owners to disable their car from detected or tracked by any outsider within certain distance range from the destination or when their car is parked.

Perfect car theft and vandalism security solution

There were over 341,200 automobile accidents and 44,105 vehicles stolen reported last year in Malaysia. With such a high number, i-GeniusTrack will be a good way for the drivers to protect themselves against unfair insurance claims and false accusation. When accident happens, you will never be left wondering "what just happened?" and you may avoid a bitter quarrel or fierce fighting, because it's all recorded. It is useless also if the road gangster trying to destroy the evidence by breaking the video recorder.
With the recording of GPS information such as time, location, travel path and speed, the device could provide the important evidence to protect you from false accusation from police such as accusation of using hand phone when driving, or over speed, which you were never able to appeal without evidence. This can indirectly prevents the police brutality or power abuse of the law enforcement officials.
With i-GeniusTrack, you can protect yourself with a one press button instantly connect with the custom contact. When emergency or accident happens such as crime or fire, or when you in danger, you no longer needed to pick up the phone to call the police and long explanation to tell them your location and situation. The office of the Malaysia Organization for the Blind ( http://mab.org.my/ ) is located in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, where I used to live. When we have tea and dinner at the shops across from the YMCA, seeing the blind knocking over tables and chairs are a common sight. What is most concerning is when you see someone fall over the curb, because the roads are not well maintained and there is no State provided system or personal assistant device, in place to assist them to move around safely.

The most trusted and useful tool for the Blind are their faithful walking cane. To date, the greatest improvement done for this piece of life support equipment is the fact that it is collapsible and shortened when not in used !

As we use new technologies to improve our daily lives, very little has been done for the impaired.

High speed and large data package transfer technologies, such as the YTL 4G broadband system, offers innovative opportunities to provide better support and aid to the blind. Corporations like YTL are at the forefront of corporate governance and social contributions.

Tourism Internet

Submitted by: karhoe - 2/1/2010 11:22:22 AM

My proposal is to revolutionize tourism and public transports in the town with the help of YTL Wimax network. Refer to the attached document for illustration.

There are 2 parts in this proposal.

Part 1) Free Internet

The first part is to provide free Internet to passengers on board public transports such as buses and taxis. While the Penang Government and KL City Hall are providing such similar service for free with P1 Wimax, I intend to make such implementation as a profit center instead of being a cost center. With more and more devices having WiFi today, such as mobile phones, smartphones, PDA, and netbooks which are so mobile, this would be a great opportunity to provide free Internet.

Wimax modules would be installed on public transportation which allow free Internet browsing to commuters. However, to provide for the cost of providing such services, advertisements would be shown in the 'header' of each websites as the commuters are browsing the Internet, refer to Diagram 1 on the attachment. Advertisements can be shown based on the keywords.

On top of that, advertisements can also be shown based on the location of the bus. For instance, if the bus were to be traveling pass Lot 10, advertisements can be shown include those on the latest promotions available in Lot 10. The ultimate goal is to convince them to depart from the bus at Lot 10 instead of the intended destination due to the influence exerted by the advertisements.

2) On board entertainment

Part 1 of the idea concerns those who owns a WiFi-enabled device, as for those who do not own a WiFi device, I intend to keep them entertained by the provision of 'interactive display'.

The 'interactive display' is nothing more than a touch screen device which shows interactive advertisements and can also be used to 'browse' certain advertisements.

Buses and trains will be fitted with GPS trackers which sends its GPS coordinate to a central server hosted by YTL. Taking a bus as an example, if a bus is about to reach Lot 10 @ Jalan Bukit Bintang during lunch time, the GPS coordinate will be transmitted to the server and the server will then feed back advertisements such as menus of some of the restaurants at Lot 10. Again the ultimate goal is to convince them leave at the destination intended by the advertisers.

The 'interactive display', as the name indicates, will become interactive in the way that, if the bus were to be traveling along Jalan Bukit Nanas, it can show advertisements from KL Tower (for example), such as the promotions available where people wanting to know more information can use the touch screen display to obtain more information (such as price, contact number, operating hours).

With this, it opens up a whole possibilities of advertisements format that can be sold, High Definition contents can be delivered by advertisers through YTL central server which can deliver such contents at high speed at zero incremental cost (as the existing infrastructures are already in place). Cost wise, after all capital expenditure have been incurred, it's just a matter of time before break even point will be achieve as from that point onwards, it will become service orientated.

To sum it up, with my idea, I intend to kill 3 birds with a stone,

1) Provide free Internet.
2) Establish a profit center.
3) Encouraging the use of public transports.

Status: Submitted

ALIVE is a Monopoly like Game developed as facebook application that utilize Facebook's friends network and Google's Map. Players will need a 3G or 4G device with LBS features enabled. Everyday travel to work or school will earn them experiences(EXP) and they might earn golds as well if lucky enough to hit the nearby golds and collect. After the user is having a certain level of EXP and gold, the player can start to buy land and build toll, hotel, so that other player will have to pay golds by walking pass his land. Player also can buy boms, nails, to place at his enemy's door step, so that his enemy will be attacked by hitting the bom located at his travelling path.

On the other hand, ALIVE can be an A&P platform for advertisers to put their gifts, vouchers, on the map for his potential customers to collect.

Current state of development is Proof of Concept. We would love to talk to YTL to sell this idea as soon.
To see the POC. Kindly contact us. Thanks.

HEALTH CALCULATOR

Submitted by: Sheikh Hady - 6/18/2010 10:46:29 PM
Category: Application

Status: Submitted

No doubt that health is very important to human. Kidney, lungs, blood, heart, skin and every human part have risk to get a disease, and one of the main factors for human chronic disease is by food they eat. Malaysia is like the heaven of food, name it, we have all type of food from east to west. But we also among the country that have many disease that caused by food.

Why don't we put an application inside YTL 4g Network that more concern on health aspect. Create a database that showing the ingredients of most Malaysian foods. For example, how many energy, cholesterol, fat and other data for a plate of fried mee. How many sugar that an adult can take for a day. Most of this database is already in the doctor database or inside encyclopedia, just use it and apply it for a new application. The database can be found in many method , internet, healthy food practioneer , medical text, research that have been done by medical professional.
Don't think that all people read the sign or labels on the food packing, not all of Malaysian people know about the meaning of the ingredient at the package labels. And what about other food that we eat and don't have the table that showing the ingredient? Ignore and just eat the nice and delicious food? By right, we should also know about it, why don't we create an application that can teach Malaysian people to have more understanding on what they swallow in their mouth daily.

Also we can include a chart or bar or index that showing what do we take daily, it is simple. The bar start with 0% in the morning, it start increase when you key in what did you take for breakfast, then to lunch until the food or drinks you take before sleep. It can determine which is the most things you take daily, wether it is good, less benefit or bad for your health. It can diagnose what is the result for today, wether you have follow the rules or not.
We can also included the water section where the ideal water we should take daily, wether we have reach the minimum or not because water is important for our body digesting system, with less water, it can expose our body to other sickness.

The first step is to know what the ingredient is, next step is how to control it. The second phase is to get know the right way to have better life and health. Many people usually don't go to seek a medical advise when they feel not well, they would take it easy and think it is normal sickness, but what that they don't know, the minor symptom could lead to a high risk disease such as kidney failure, high blood, over sugar in the blood or any else major disease. Just name it, all human part is expose to any danger if no earlier prevention was taken. That's why I suggest an application like this to be added in our technology, it was like an advise from the doctor in our cell phone that we can bring anywhere, use anytime and unlimited. It is like a personal touch from the doctor, it is also can be use as an alarm when we should seek a professional medical advise from a doctor. What is the right medicine we should take for a sickness that we are facing. How to control sugar in our body, how to burn fat, how and why. That is most common question that we should seriously consider.

We can also include food fact, like
1.Carrots really can help you see in the dark (Vitamin A is known to prevent "night blindness," and carrots are loaded with Vitamin A).
2.There are about 100,000 bacteria in one litre of drinking water
3.Sometimes frozen fruits and vegetables are more nutritious than fresh! The longer that fruits or vegetables sit around waiting to be sold or eaten, the more nutrients they lose. But fruits and vegetables grown for freezing are usually frozen right after they're picked. Therefore, they have less time to lose their nutrients
4.Have a tomato with your burger - When a source of Vitamin C (orange, lemon, grapefruit, strawberry, tomato, potato, etc.) is eaten with meat or cooked dry beans, the body makes better use of the iron in the protein food.
5.It takes 3500 calories to make a pound of fat - So, as long as you're active, and burning of calories, calories shouldn't have too much of a chance to turn into fat

In this modern era, we know that technology is everything, with technology we can conquer the world, but don't forget with technology also we are getting lazy and weak, we don't move, we don't jogging anymore. For example, kid don't go to park anymore, they rather play Playstation at home while the teenagers dont interest in sport, they would really like to hang with friend at 'Mamak' stall and enjoyed Wifi. This has nothing wrong, that is the way we should enjoy technology, but try to imagine what we can do with this application in this technology? We get two benefits at the same time, we can explore and enjoy the technology and maintain our healthier life at the same moment.

Im not saying the application that is already out there is not good, but I would really like to see an application like this in the technology that YTL is implement right now. Use for benefit for all Malaysian. The number of patient can be reduce and we can save human life, what is more wonderful rather than enjoy technology and get the benefits of a healthier lifestyle?

I believe this is a very simple application that can be apply into YTL technology, but yet it is the most useful innovation and creation. There is still millions of tips and health fact that many of Malaysian people still don't know. Let's educated them!!!

Beautiful Sabah

4G allows higher data transfer rates, stable connectivity and more importantly, mobility.

The Beautiful Sabah program is a discussion in progress, between Mr Johnny Chong, Ms Patricia Kitingan, and Adrian Chin ( myself ).

As part of the initiative to enhance the experience for visitor, tourists and locals, who are in Sabah to experience the food, vacation resorts, forest reserves and parks, utilization of the YTL 4G will allow for data transfer and effective integration of "live" events to a portal where visitors to the portal, can view what the person who is attending the function or festival is witnessing, thus enhancing the whole experience of sharing a "live" atmosphere

For instance, a visiting group of 8 from Germany could be attending a traditional Kadazan Dusun wedding in Ranau. These visitors can use 4G to film the dinner, surrounding and kampung atmosphere, and send "live" to the portal and their family and friends can also share in the atmosphere of that couple's wedding, albeit in a more subdued manner as they will not be able to partake in Tapai ( the traditional home brewed rice wine )

Integration of 4G will provide the increased opportunity to bring out the best in the Beautiful Sabah experience. To visit Sabah a few times a year, that is not difficult. You just need to find time and visit. To experience a Kadazan couple's traditional wedding reception and dinner, in a small setting in Keningau, that could really be a once in a lifetime experience, an experience worth the effort to film and share "live" with others !!

Intelligent Transportation System ITS

Submitted by: vinitg - 9/2/2010 7:37:37 AM

Conveno â€" the ubiquitous 3D visitor guide service for buildings

Submitted by: sw - 3/17/2010 9:07:08 PM
Category: Application

Status: Submitted

1. Idea. Imagine visiting any building in Malaysia and being cordially guided on a highly visual path to the shop or office you want to visit. Or being able to pre-visit and tour a hospital or a hotel room or a convention hall before physically going there. A 3D visitor guide service for 1,000s of buildings in Malaysia - that is what Conveno aims to deliver.

2. Conveno. Conveno (http://www.conveno.com) is a ready-to-deploy 3D visitor guide software-as-a-service that is delivered on three platforms: online (via websites), onsite (via touch-kiosks) and on-mobile, for building visitors. Conveno targets hospitals, shopping malls, convention centres, corporate showrooms, integrated resorts, hotels, and virtually any building that faces visitors.

3. Unique Proposition. The unique proposition of Conveno is that it uses a real-world 3D digital building model, combined with a 3D path engine, to guide visitors clearly inside a building.

4. Benefits. Visitors can easily find out the facilities and units of interests (e.g. shops, clinics, offices) using Conveno, and be guided on a step-by-step path towards their destination in the building. For Building Owners, Conveno also functions as a sales-and-marketing tool for locations of interest (e.g. hotel rooms, exhibition halls, office spaces, shop units ) and reduces manpower costs in customer service.

5. Conveno platforms and 4G. Conveno services are served from a cloud infrastructure to PCs, touch-kiosks and mobile phones. The high data footprint of 3D data per building, coupled with the need to deliver timely and efficient services to visitors, imply the need for a high-bandwidth network with effective peak data rates. Thus, the capability to responsively distribute 1,000s of 3D digital buildings throughout Malaysia via Conveno services will unquestionably demonstrate the power and benefits that 4G can deliver.

6. Conveno IPR. Conveno is a 3D digital building software-as-a-service of G Element Pte Ltd (http://www.gelement.com). specializing in providing 3D Digital Building solutions and services.

From rote learning to effective learning, thanks to the leading edge YTL's 4G Network

Submitted by: William Lim - 6/18/2010 3:25:09 PM
Category: Application

Status: Submitted

Study... study... study! Memorise... memorise... memorise! Passive learning and become bookworms.

1.0) Background

If you have gone through a sequential of primary through tertiary education in the last decades, chances are you are quite likely to fall under the above category. To a certain extent, you didn't get the desired job or achieved your childhood ambition. Most of us carry the heavy load school bags and try to grasp everything we have had learned into our pity puny brain. With the presence of 4G WiMax infrastructure, the learning process is now interestingly enjoyable and effective. Say tune...

2.0) Problem Statement, Recommendation, Assumptions

2.1) Current Situation, Constraints

Apparently this phenomenon is not only our childhood experience in the past, this sounds familiar to those students today whether they are in primary, secondary schools, pre-university level as well as in some universities. Limited network coverage and inconsistent speed of WiFi connection, and network security are some major limiting factors that hindered the extensive use of multimedia teaching tools for interactive and effective learning throughout the education industry.

2.2) Recommendation â€" How is this innovative learning model work?

Using a LCD projector to portray the tutorial materials on a smart-board screen, the lecturer/ presenter use his finger (as a pointer) to move/ scroll the slides as he wishes. When he see a Hyper-link e.g. http://www.ytlcommunity.com/myeducation/index.asp he can just point to the link and immediately connect to the specified website for ongoing presentation through the touch screen smart board interface. The 4G WiMax network enables easy connection to the "relevant site" for live webcast, webinar from lecturers in foreign country to share their lectures, knowledge, wisdom with students located here while they are lecturing their students in the home country on a real time concurrent basis (refer to Illustration 1). For distance learners, a typical notebook with webcam suffices to join the online tutorial.

Example, when a lecturer try to explain about a service-oriented business, further elaborate the chronological processes and to prove a point; he can easily use real life animated images through videos or podcast to facilitate his explanation, lecture or presentation (a video clip tells a million words).

2.3) Assumptions

With the advent of 4G WiMax technology and nationwide connectivity coupled with the electronic devices and software support, this high-speed internet broadband access facilitates tutor in the schools and higher learning institutions to conduct their teaching in a more effective, fun and understandable manner (refer to Illustration 2). The multimedia tools or devices can be linked in-campus and off-campus without many obstacles and yet economical.

3.0) Critical Success Factor

The critical success factor of this model lies on the 4G WiMax infrastructure readiness, the extent of coverage and speed consistency in the service-areas within and beyond the campus.

4.0) Future Scenario

The next generation of students will be able to view, listen, learn, immerse and experience the virtual environment and context of the subject in the classroom/ auditorium. This will greatly enhance the understanding of students and inculcate pragmatic thinking in deriving effective solutions to real life problems. Lesser text books need to be printed while heavy school bags for the school-going children would be a past. Moving forward, distance-based learning via video and web-conferencing is the forefront trend.

5.0) Benefits to the education community

Once the YTL Communications' 4G WiMax is implemented nationwide, it provides seamless connectivity to the nation with the equal access and abundant opportunities to seize for more information, acquire knowledge, learn the subject matters well and yet is cost effective (Learn More & Pay Less).

In addition, this innovative concept augur well the Ministry of Education to promote early enrollment of children for Primary One at the age of 5years for interactive-fun learning. The early adoption of this effective learning model will make future cohort of graduates and scholars more employable and sought after by the industries (potentially achieve Higher Income).

6.0) Gaps identification

- Device readiness and supportability
- Disruption-free and no intermittent internet connection
- Substantial initial layout (on devices) would slow down the implementation

Conclusion

Our proposed model has illustrated a practical conducive learning environment that benefits the students, postgraduates and distance learners at large. This application idea is developed upon a Three-pronged approach harnesses the development of student-government-private sector. While providing the good infrastructure services to the nation, YTL Communications is also playing a vital role in its' corporate responsibility too.
